John Young joined Team 4, which comprised Richard Rogers, Su Rogers, Norman Foster, and Wendy Cheesman, in 1966, after seeing their award-winning work on the Wates Housing Project. He then went on to be an Associate Partner at Richard + Su Rogers from 1967-71, where he was project architect for Wimbledon House, which applied the construction methodology of Team 4’s Reliance Controls to a residential scheme. John was subsequently Associate Partner at Piano + Rogers from 1971-1977 and worked on the Pompidou Centre.
In 1977 he was one of the co-founders of the Richard Rogers Partnership, (RRP), along with Richard Rogers, Marco Goldschmied and, later, Mike Davies, and was involved in all projects carried out by the practice, including being the partner in charge of the construction for Lloyd’s of London and Channel 4 Headquarters. His acute understanding of spatial organisation and meticulous attention to detail can be seen in all the projects he worked on.
