Avtar is the Managing Director of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners Australia who are currently working as Lead Design Consultant with a multidisciplinary team to design five new Metro stations on the Metro Tunnel Project in the city of Melbourne. Previously he led the RSHP team of architects based in Sydney in the design and construction of the Barangaroo South Project - the largest single development in Australia at the time. Avtar also holds the role of an Associate Partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, London. He has worked with the practice for 34 years with a focus on design excellence and its delivery.
As an Associate Partner, Avtar was in charge of One Hyde Park, a luxury residential development in London’s Knightsbridge. He was also responsible for the Law Courts in Antwerp, the associated Nieu Zuid Masterplan and the Bolivarplaats projects and the new headquarters of Lloyd’s Register in the City of London. In addition, he has played a key role in a diverse range of projects and competitions, including the renovation of Old Billingsgate Fish Market in the City of London, the design of Channel 4 Headquarters in London, Strasbourg Court of Human Rights and Terminals at London Heathrow and Madrid Barajas airports.
Avtar has experience of every project phase from competition design, urban-planning, concept design through to detail design, construction and contract administration, as well as client liaison, material and energy technologies and sustainable design.
Avtar has also been the director of the Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners Charitable Foundation, (formerly The Thames Wharf Charity), for some 30 years and sat on the Council of Management of the Foundation. The practice is entirely owned by the charity, which in turn receives an annual dividend from the practice and distributes this for charitable purposes at the direction of the employees of the practice.
