Andy Redfearn, Director of Housing & Development, YMCA London South West
Andrew was made an Associate Partner in 2011 having worked for the practice for over 20 years. He has worked on a number of award-winning London projects including Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, 88 Wood Street and the Millennium Dome, of which he was project architect for the central area, as well as the National Assembly for Wales, Heathrow Terminal 5 and Las Arenas in Barcelona.
Andrew is involved in much of the research and development done by the practice and has most recently developed ‘Skyfarm’: a system of aquaponic and hydroponic farming which could represent an alternative to typical land-intensive farming systems. His work investigating how modern methods of manufacture can be used in housing and school design was used in the Design for Manufacture competition and subsequently for Oxley Woods, Milton Keynes which won the 2008 Manser Medal. This system has now evolved further, and Homeshell is being rolled out across a number of schemes in the UK, including Y:Cube and PLACE/Ladywell.
Andrew was based in Barcelona for two years where he helped to set up the new project office for the company, from which he worked as project architect on Hotel Hesperia and Conference Centre, and the Viladecans Business Park. He led the design team that delivered 8 Chifley, a sustainable office building in Sydney’s Commercial District, which opened in 2013. Currently he is working on a number of housing and mixed-use developments in the UK, Monaco and Australia.
